About Us

We are all in this together and are glad you are visiting our site. The Save Our Speyside action group was formed in response to a Public Meeting held at the Craigellachie Village Hall on Monday 28th November, 2011 by a company known as Estover Energy.

The Purpose

Estover Energy are proposing to develop a wood fired biomass power station to provide electricity to the National Grid and a small percentage of waste heat to the Macallan Distillery on a hill in Craigellachie Wood,  just along from the distillery on the opposite side of the B9102 Archiestown road.

Our Aim

We want to work together to make our objections known and to reach out to other groups.  We want to protect this area from becoming a 24 hour a day, 7 day a week heavy industrial site, which will be noisy, increase traffic from all sides, but most of all will spoil the beautiful views from all around the Spey Valley. This is our online meeting place, where we share ideas, and publicise our and your thoughts.   Together we can protect our local environment, landscape and wildlife for the future.

We are in the early stages of setting up this website and will be able to give more information in due course.

Time is of the Essence!

Estover will be starting their pre-application process with Moray Council at the end of January with a view to making a full Planning Application in April, subject to initial studies carried out by statutory consultees.

So how can you help to stop this Biomass going ahead?

For those of you who have kindly signed our e-petition, we would like to take this opportunity to Thank You for your continued support.  This is an important part of demonstrating the strength of feeling against this Biomass development to Estover, Macallan and our councillors.  However, the petition would not count when the Planning Application is submitted to the Moray Council.

Therefore, at the point of the Planning Application being made public, it is
CRUCIAL that you note your objections to the Planning Department at Moray Council, either via their website (www.moray.gov.uk) or in writing.  We will advise the Planning Application details when announced, so please look out for this update on our website in the near future.

Write a letter to our local Ward Councillors:

Cllr Pearl Paul (SNP) - 56 Land Street, Rothes AB38 7BB
Cllr Fiona Murdoch (Ind)  - 23 Balvenie Street, Dufftown AB55 4AS
Cllr Michael McConachie (SNP) - 11 Maclennan Place, Dufftown AB55 4EF

Write a letter to Macallan:

The Macallan, Easter Elchies, Craigellachie, Aberlour AB38 9RX

Finally write a letter to Moray Council objecting to the Planning Application (we will advise details of this nearer the time).

Other campaign groups have been successful in stopping similar biomass developments in rural communities in Scotland. See following link for one example:
